A time for war, and a time for peace.
Christ is the reason for our hope.
“When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.”
It seems like every other day that #WorldWarIII is trending on social media. Pope Francis has spoken many times about “the Third World War being fought piecemeal.” The United States and its allies are fighting proxy wars against Russia and Iran. On the Pacific front, the US is refurbishing long-abandoned World War II landing strips for a future clash with China. The world seems headed for the brink of an abyss and political leaders on all sides seem unable or unwilling to change course.
My purpose here is not to tell you what to think about the wars in Ukraine, Gaza, or anywhere else. Rather, I want to reflect on the reason for our hope in times of war. As I wrote for Word on Fire in 2023, No matter what the future holds for America and the world, the ultimate victory of Christ is assured.
