The podcast
Thanks to Dom Bettinelli at StarQuest Media, I’ve had the opportunity to hone my skills as a podcaster. Most recently, I hosted an episode of the Secrets of Middle-earth where the panel engaged in a fun overview discussion of the first season of Amazon Prime’s The Rings of Power.
This week, I will begin working on the script for the first episode of my new podcast. I’ll also be taking time to learn more about the technical side of podcast production. Dom kindly sent me some wonderful tutorials about audio recording and editing using Audacity. I hope to record my pilot episode by November 15 and to release it before the month is out.
My working title for the show is the same as this blog: Thomas Salerno’s Perilous Realms. I think it makes sense to keep a catchy brand name that’s uniform across my written and audio content. For now the podcast will be strictly audio, though I hope to incorporate video in the future.
A Discord server?
I’ve been putting a lot of careful thought into how I could craft exclusive content for a paid tier for Perilous Realms. One idea that’s stuck with me is to set up a private Discord server exclusive to paid subscribers. My plan for this community forum would be a place for you to discuss this blog and the podcast, but also provide an opportunity for you to help shape my future projects!
Discord members would have access to special discussion threads where I’d share some of my in-progress fiction (worldbuilding documents, outlines, character profiles, early drafts, etc.) and solicit your feedback!
I’m very eager to provide this kind of interactive content that allows my readers and listeners to feel part of a shared experience. Please, let me know in the comments what you think of this idea of a Discord.
New frontiers
I hope to spend the next few months building up momentum so that 2023 will be a landmark year for my creative life! Up until this time, I’ve only dabbled in fiction, and I really want to push my boundaries in this area. I know I have some incredible stories in me. I just need to push past the fear and doubt that’s been keeping me from writing them. With your help and support, I know I can bring these tales out of my imagination and into the world.
Please remember to share this newsletter with anyone who may be interested. I have several new posts in the works besides next week’s progress report.
Until we meet again, “The Road goes ever on. . .”
Audacity is a pretty straightforward program to use, and is especially wonderful for those with no prior audio editing knowledge. Best of Providence with your new podcasting endeavors!
