So . . . about Twitter, Part 2 (Join me on Notes!)
I've ditched the Bird App for a new place to connect
Good riddance, Twitter
After Twitter’s recent campaign against Substack links, I announced that I was thinking about departing that platform for good.
In the days since, I had a particularly negative interaction on the Bird App that reminded me how toxic and cruel an environment Twitter can be. It is not and never has been a place for nuanced discussion.
As
recently wrote for her newsletter:Twitter is designed to reward the quickest, hottest, least nuanced, most outrageous takes. It thrives on fury, fear, and us/them attitudes. It requires excessive time on the platform. The shrillest, cruelest voices grow most quickly.
Join me on Substack Notes!
When Substack Notes was launched I eagerly jumped at the chance for a Twitter alternative with a focus on writers and their readers.
I just published my first note on Substack Notes, and would love for you to join me there!
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t quite fit in the newsletter, such as fun life updates or questions for my readers.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to my newsletter, you’ll automatically see my notes. Just like on Twitter, you can like, reply to, or “restack” my posts. You can also share notes of your own.
I have high hopes for what Notes can become, but I’m sure that like on every new social media platform, there will be growing pains. Still, I’ve had an entirely positive experience so far and I’ve already found a few new Substacks to follow!
What’s next?
My immediate plans are to get the first of my new regular Substack update posts out to you on Wednesday 4/19.
I’m thinking of calling this series Pageturning. Each issue (which will initially release on a biweekly schedule) will feature news about what I’m reading and writing, links to interesting content I’ve found across the web, and maybe a short essay or review. I’m especially inspired by the structure of my friend Haley’s This Week's Miscellany posts on
.I’m also working on the first exclusive behind-the-scenes content for paid subscribers! I hope to share the first work in progress chapter of my new middle grade fantasy novel sometime in May.
I’m so grateful to all my subscribers for their support!
Let me know what you think of Substack Notes and what you’d like to see from me in the future.
