"They all ate and were satisfied."
Christ can transform your talents into heavenly food for hungry.
They were waiting for him on the shore.
When [Jesus] disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. (Matthew 14:14)
Jesus’s response to our need, our sorrow, our brokenness, our hunger is to give entirely of himself. The Lord is a generous giver. Even when we feel unworthy, Christ is ready and waiting to bind our wounds and feed our souls. We only need to approach him in confidence.
And the most remarkable thing of all is, Jesus is eager for us to imitate him by giving away to our needy, sorrowful, broken, and hungry brethren the gifts we have received from his loving hands.
When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” He said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “Bring them here to me.” (Matthew 14:15-18)
Often I wonder anxiously what return I can possibly make to God for all his blessings. When I look only with the eyes of the world and not with the eyes of faith, my meager talents and humble resources seem a paltry gift. Like the disciples, I present my offerings with barely concealed embarrassment.
But Jesus simply smiles and says, “Bring them here to me.”
Taking the five loaves and the two fish , and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over — twelve wicker baskets full. (Matthew 14:19-20)
Never be ashamed or embarrassed by the talents you have. Christ ardently desires that we, like the disciples, may give generously of ourselves, that we may cooperate with him in his divine work of feeding a world that is spiritually starving. When we trust him completely, he can transform even the humblest portion into a feast from which all will eat and be satisfied.
